Pros and Cons of Owning Rats
Pros:
Rats are very intelligent animals and are easy to train.
Rats become very attached to their owners and are very affectionate.
Rats are small and don't require much space (compared to cats and dogs) so are ideal for people who stay in flats.
Rats are very clean animals, rarely needing a bath (if ever). They are also quick and easy to clean up after (compared to cats and dogs)
Rats are relatively inexpensive to keep.
Cons:
Relatively short lifespans (2-3 years)
Rats are prone to some health issues, such as respiratory infections and tumours (especially in females).
Some people are allergic to rats, but this is manageable as rats do not roam freely in the home.
Finding a vet that is qualified in treating exotic pets (and rats) is fairly difficult
